Prespa
Bounded in the west by Albania and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the north, the lakes and surrounding lands that make up Prespa National Park were – until only a few years ago – an appalling example of how neglect, bureaucratic incompetence and misplaced development can conspire to bring a magnificent natural ecosystem to the edge of ruin – all within the context of a 'conservation-friendly' European Union. That Prespa is now flourishing is a tribute to the monumental struggle by Giorgos Catsadorakis and Myrsini Malakou (in concert with WWF Greece, Byron Antipas, Luc Hoffmann and others). In this first English edition, Catsadorakis tells the story of Prespa – its people, customs, politics, ecology and wildlife. An absorbing and passionate work, with a vivid text and many stunning colour photographs.
