The Carabidae (Coleoptera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark, Volume 1

The first half of a two-part monograph on Scandinavian members of the beetle family Carabidae. The manuscript of this book was only partly ready when the author passed away in 1979 and was conmpleted with the help of specialists who revised the introductury chapters and keys to the genera, and expanded faunistic information for all four countries. The book expands on Lindroth's 1942 book on this family and expands the geographic coverage. Species descriptions are kept short, concentrating on information that can be used to separate related species. Male genitalia are often described and illustrated, whereas female ones are underutilised, despite providing good characters. Distributional data are given quite cursorily and a summary of the occurrence of each species within different provinces throughout the area is presented as a catalogue at the end of each volume. Information on life history and habits are given profusely and may help collectors finding specimens in the field.
