Wild Australia Guide: Kangaroos and Their Relatives
Fifty living macropod species inhabit the Australian mainland and the continent's adjacent islands. This Wild Australia Guide features every one of these delightful native mammals. Enhanced with beautiful photographs, which showcase the complete range of macropod moods, this concise guide provides excellent tips for identification in the field, based on appearance, size, behaviour and distribution.
The conservation status for each species is also listed. Before Europeans settled Australia, a further six macropod species existed – unfortunately, these are now extinct. Even today, many of the macropods featured in this Wild Australia Guide are listed as vulnerable or endangered – particularly the smaller rock-wallabies, hare-wallabies, bettongs and potoroos. Wild Australia Guide: Kangaroos and Their Relatives is a timely reminder of the global importance of Australia's unique macropods.
